Ed-vise: People

A back in the saddle GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, been a bit busy lately what with travel and jits and family and, of course…my BIRTHDAY! What?!?!?! Yup, turned the big 5-3 on Monday so…take THAT!

Think About it Thursday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s THURSDAY! Time to THINK!

Over the weekend, I was down in So. Cal with my Jitsu Family. Doing some training on the beach, laying by the pool and getting the ever loving CRAP burned out of me. At least on those spots where I didn’t properly apply sunblock 50. You know, when you put it on yourself and end up with streaks all over the body. THAT is one of the many reasons we have MOMS!

Anyway…

One of the many things we do, along with jits, is talk. Some of us talk really deep on different topics. Our conversations run all over the place. We challenge each other’s ideas and thoughts on different topics. We learn from each other and grow. The really cool thing is we don’t get off the deep in passionate about any particular position which keeps everyone from hating each other’s guts when someone disagrees with us. It makes for great conversations.

I was presented the question: Do you think people are “good?”

With everything going on, it would be easy to say “no.” So, I had to pause before my initial answer, and reflect a bit.

Now, I know a lot of people and, as a history buff, I have read about a lot of people. I know people who, you would think, are very mean. I have read about people who by and large, were considered “evil.”

My reply to the question: on a small, individual scale, I think people are good.

My reasoning: the people I know, that some would consider mean or whatever, if you came to them, hat in hand, no matter who you are, and said “I need help” they would help you. Give you the shirt off their back to get you back on your feet. Without regard to payback (at that time). They would help you because, that is who they are. They might tell you that you are stupid for getting in that position or that you don’t know what you are doing, but they would help. Many times they will help a stranger more than their own family!

In history, we always learn about the large scale of various leaders. Meaning we learn about the government or conquest they do. Rarely do we learn about them as individuals. There are several accounts of children, even Jewish children, that met Hitler one-on-one and found him quite charming. Same with Genghis Khan, whose armies killed so many back in the day that the earth actually cooled due to the population decrease.

My thinking is people are good. However, the thing to Think on is at what level do people become more selfish?

For instance, the “help” I spoke of earlier with the people I know, if the “help” is provided by the government or mandated by law…forget it! They won’t do it. Hence the debate of things like subsidized health care and food stamps and welfare. They would give you the food from their garden on their own accord. However, mandate it, NOPE. Won’t happen.

A bit of something for you to Think about. Are people “good?”

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Be the person a stranger will do CPR on. Check in on each other and remember Jesus drove a…CHRIST-LER! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA…flames are hot!

Peace
