A holes in my sandwich GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, bread has holes in it! All this outrage over everything and NOBODY is doing ANYTHING about the HOLES IN MY BREAD! Hard to spread homemade jam!
Monday Musings Ed-vise today. Cause it’s MONDAY! So GET AFTER IT!
Lots of outrage over the recent Supreme Court decisions. Student debt thing got struck down (even thought it was a law Republicans put in place), Affirmative action took a hit, and creative businesses can discriminate all they want!
Good stuff! Really…it is.
Will ‘Murican society roll back in time to pre-civil rights days? No. I highly doubt it.
Will minority people still have access to Ivy League schools? Absolutely.
See, I remain optimistic about our future because I am a bit of a capitalist. Not a “greedy one.” More of a “realistic” one.
What you are witnessing, at this point in history, is the wrestling match between parts of the Constitution. The First Amendment’s freedom to practice religion and the Civil Rights Amendments (13, 14, and 15th amendments). PLUS, the 10th amendment about State Sovereignty.
The court is dealing with where to draw a line in the sand that is being shifted around by the winds of change. If you think along the lines of a “Capitalist” you realize that the so called “creative” businesses need customers. And when customers don’t show up, those businesses go away.
Plus, that “Knife of Discrimination” cuts both ways. And it cuts deep. So when a so called “Christian” gets to discriminate, those they discriminate against can DO THE SAME THING! Pay backs are double!
The Affirmative Action case brought up a really good point about who it was supposed to help. The Court also brought up that Affirmative Action isn’t supposed to last forever. Further that the schools were supposed to set up measurable goals. Which they didn’t.
See, Affirmative Action was supposed to remedy past discriminations. It was NEVER supposed to be a permanent thing. Once the discriminations were remedied it was to go away.
For the Student Loan thing, well, it’s like this. I know I took out a loan to pay for college. I know I have to pay it back. It’s the interest that is killing so many. It’s the interest that has doubled or tripled the size of the loan. It’s the interest that has basically enslaved students. It’s the interest that the bible SPECIFICALLY does not want (where you Evangelicals at?). I just want the interest capped or eliminated.
It’s an amazing time to be alive. We are watching history play out before us. Read the cases. Read the dissents. You will become more optimistic about the future of Good Ol’ ‘Murica!
I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Be the person a stranger will do CPR on. Check in on each other and remember Indiana Jones is depressed because his career is…IN RUINS! BWAHAHAHAHHAA…INDEEEEEE!
Peace
