If you haven’t heard, Russia shut down the “Grain Deal” with Ukraine.
“So what” you say.
In sum, the price of food will go up…again. Just because countries cannot get their grain out of Ukraine. Yes, Good Ol’ ‘Murice does have a lot of grain. More than enough to feed everyone in ‘Murica for a long time. Can even feed a bunch of people in the world for a long time.
Ukraine, that roughly the size of Texas (God bless Texas), supplies 40% of the world’s supply of wheat and 16% of the world’s corn. ‘Murica supplies around 6%.
Supply and demand tells us that when 40% of the world’s wheat gets shut down, the price of that 6% will go up. Even in ‘Murica. Why? Because of this cool thing called “A Global Economy.” Just like oil, wheat does the same thing.
The other cool thing to keep in mind has to do with the military embargo Russia set.
Turkey said it will escort ships into and out of the Black Sea. Thing is, they can only go so far.
See, in the world, countries that border waters have borders that actually extend into the waters. You have a 12 mile territorial claim. In addition to a couple others. The 12 mile one basically allows a country, with that claim, to tell all other countries, “Don’t Enter” or we will sink you. Perfectly within Russia’s right in the Black Sea. Thus, if Turkey crosses that 12 mile boundary, and gets sunk, that’s on Turkey.
But, if Russia makes a mistake on the 12 miles and sinks a Turkish ship, well, get your popcorn and scotch ready to head to the bunkers because THAT is the start of WW3!
