A warm morning GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, it was warm this morning meaning it’s gonna be HOT! Not like Texas (God bless Texas) hot. But that doesn’t matter. Hot is hot…I don’t care who you are!
Monday Musings Ed-vise today. Cause it’s MONDAY So…GET AFTER IT!
Plenty of Musings this weekend. Stuff in Niger (the country); Maui and Lahaina; how we mis-characterize vanilla as boring (yeah, I said it!); even T-Rump possibly being banned from running under section 3 of the 14th amendment of the Constitution (but his followers don’t even know the document exists).
Plenty going on and plenty to Muse about.
So, I’ll talk a little about Niger (the country).
See, reason being is I was looking at a history journal magazine the other day. Because I’m a historian type.
All of the articles revolved around European history. That’s really all we get is European history or European flavored history.
I started to wonder about the history of Africa. Yes, we get Egyptian stuff. Maybe a bit of Muslim influence on the continent which limits it to the Sahara region i.e. North Africa. Morocco a bit because they were actually the first country to recognize Good Ol’ ‘Murica as a country back in the late 1700s.
However, what we know of the history of Africa is primarily based on European accounts and the atrocities committed by the King of Belgium (Leopold). We also know of the slave trade from the continent that came to the Americas (North and South Americas). But, like I said, we rarely learn of the empires that rose and fell through the centuries in Africa.
Take Niger for instance.
For the longest time, France has had a tight grip on Niger. Why? I mean it’s a land locked nation. Meaning no ships come to it. Hot. Probably hotter than Texas (God bless Texas).
See, Niger has a couple of really cool things that France, and many other countries, really like.
One is gold. The other is Uranium.
They’ve been mining those metals for some time. Rather, France owns the companies that employ the Niger people to mine the minerals. French people don’t do the mining.
France pulls the resource out and keeps it. They pay a small amount for it.
Now, chew on this for a bit: would Good Ol’ ‘Murica allow another country to come in and take it’s gold or it’s uranium?
Nope!
We might trade for it. But that trade would be something REALLY valuable.
So, if we wouldn’t let that happen, why should Niger allow it?
Well, they just stopped it. A small coup by the military to throw out the guy who was making big money allowing France to take the minerals and BAM! Now France has a problem…no more gold…no more Uranium. Which means those nuclear plants might not be running much longer. Unless France comes up with a solution.
Sometimes, you just take a bit too much until someone has had enough.
I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Be the person a stranger will do CPR on. Check in on each other and remember when lazy people exercise they do…DIDDLY SQUATS! BWAHAHAHAHHAHAHA…LEG DAY!
Peace
