Ed-vise: Flash Mob

A warm evening GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, another warm evening last night for sleeping. Funny how the body sleeps much better when it is colder. But, when it gets too cold I end up waking up to dive under the covers to heat back up and kick off the covers. UGGGHHH!

What Would You Do Wednesday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s WEDNESDAY! And I do love WEDNESDAYS!

So, down in LA (the Center of the Universe) a video came out of a “flash mob” robbing a store in the Glendale Americana mall. I guess that’s NOT LA. It’s Glendale…which is next door to LA.

Now the Americana sits across the street from the Glendale Galleria. Which is another mall that I am familiar with from my days living in So. Cal.

The Galleria used to have a facilities manager there who went by the name of “Nacho.” I don’t know if he is still there.

Nacho was (and probably still remains) NO JOKE! He has gang ties; gang tats; and a bit of a rap sheet. He stands about 5′ 11″ and when I met him he was around 250 or so. Shaved head and the, I’ll call it, “Bandito” mustache. I think he had some close ties with the Vagos biker “club.”

He took care of the Galleria like it was his house. He radiated intimidation…literally. If you ever meet up with me, ask me how he and I became friends.

His reputation probably is what kept the “flash mob” from hitting the Galleria. Because you might walk out with the stuff, but you weren’t going to keep it long. And not because of the police.

That side…What Would You Do if a sudden “flash mob” showed up around you and started to steal/rob the store you are shopping in?

I can only give Ed-vise from where I sit having watched lots of these videos.

Point 1: if you don’t know how to fight DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! Get out of the way or out of the store. Be ready to protect yourself but do not attempt to subdue the mob.

Point 2: Even if you do know how, you might want to jump in. DON’T. You’re not weak. You’re smart. It’s one against a lot. It could easily turn super bad for you. Be ready to protect yourself and loved ones from the mob.

Point 3: Record everything you can. Now you is a great time to break out the smart phone and record everything. Listen for names as well.

Point 4 is for the employees: You are not paid to subdue mobs. Know your company policy on robberies and go by that. Otherwise, remember, as a part time minimum wage person, you probably do not have the healthcare benefits to fix yourself after you intervene and it is not worth your time on the worker’s comp side of the house.

Point 5 is for the employers: What is your policy on such workplace violence? What is the after care for employees who have to clean up the mess? Have you tried scenarios and have you trained your employees? The higher the dollar value of the items for sale, the more likely you are a target.

Unless you have a facilities manager of Nacho’s caliber.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Be the person a stranger will do CPR on. Check in on each other and remember if you don’t feed a pirate, they will…STARRRRRR-VE! BWAHAHAHAHAHA…AHOY MATEY!

Peace
