Ed-vise: Another day another plundering

A Shohei Otani GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, that would be a $700 Million good morning! Shohei went to the Dodgers for 10 years at $700 Million! MAN! I should have stayed playing baseball more. I’d play for the Dodgers for $70 Mill. Let’s not be greedy!

Monday Musings Ed-vise today. Cause it’s MONDAY! So GET AFTER IT!

So I went to the Family Farm this weekend. Bit of estate planning stuff for Granny (Donna) as she gets ready to start her new career as a Snow Bird.

That drive means I get to listen to my boring podcasts. Absolute joy for me!

Was listening to Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History. He was talking about Charlemagne and the Vikings and the Danes and the Saxons along with all the other actors during what was called “The Dark Ages.” Side note: not everyone was having a “Dark Age.” Some were at the height of greatness.

He brought up an imaginary character. A boy about 8 years old.

He’s a villager on the coast of Ireland. Fishing in the waters and through the fog he sees like 30 or 40 ships coming right at the shore he is on. His hairs on his neck stand up. He drops his pole and starts running to his village only to see his village being burned to the ground by a pack of Vikings who are just slaughtering everyone and everything in the village.

He manages to survive by running away or whatever.

Couple years later, having been found by a relative from a neighboring village, we find him on the waters again, fishing. Again, ships through the fog show up and again his village is plundered and burned.

He manages to survive.

Couple years later. Same water, same ships, same plundering.

This happens over and over and over.

The plundering by the Vikings happened constantly along the coasts of Northern Europe. Over and over they would show up, raid and plunder, take some slaves, rape everyone they could, and leave before any army could mobilize and counter it.

Moreover, you would have people that survived multiple such attacks. Like every year or two.

Can you imagine every year or two having to rebuild from the ashes? Can you imagine the mental hardship that would be?

I mean there was no such thing as a “counselor” or child psychologist. You were a kid and everything you know and have is dead and burned. Gone. In an afternoon.

Your house, your uncle’s house, then your cousins house, then grandparents, and on and on and on.

You think mental health is an issue now…imagine what it was back in the 800s.

To make it worse for our imaginary kid. Picture him going to the next village and they tell him “NO WAY KID! You’re bad luck. Go somewhere else.” Talk about someone who hates their life.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Be the person a stranger will do CPR on. Check in on each other and remember a joke telling lizard is a…STAND UP CAMELLION! BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

Peace
