Ed-vise: Write a Letter

A still icy GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, snow and ice still on the ground and it’s still cold. Though I can see the ice starting to melt as the water drips down the icicles. What a weird word…”icicles.”

What Would You Do Wednesday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s WEDNESDAY! And I do love WEDNESDAYS!

With the ice and snow and winter weather comes the 2024 Political Season!

Thing about it this year is that the language gets more and more harsh each year.

At least that is what it seems.

I was reading up on some of the exit polls coming out of Iowa where T-Rump managed to win the republican primary. Side note: fewer republican voters turned out than last time he ran and he had fewer votes than before so don’t lose any sleep over those numbers.

Anyway…

The comments from republican voters were, to say the least, eye rolling.

The one issue that was common had to do with immigration. Immigration, immigration, immigration. Over and over the voters coming out all pointed to that one issue.

What would you do if your friend or family member were to bring up that topic? Because it’s gonna come up.

First, you should read up on your Ed-vise. It’ll help. And it doesn’t hurt to engage a bit and listen.

A bit of trivia for you: How long has illegal immigration been a political issue?

That single issue has ALWAYS been around! Ever since Good Ol’ ‘Murica came into the international scene, it has always been an issue.

Back in the late 1800s and early 1900s it was the “Yellow Scare” that had ‘Muricans all kinds of flustered. Those were migrants from the Asian countries coming to ‘Murica.

Before that it was the Eastern Europeans. Then the Italians; then the Irish. I mean, pick a country and you will find a piece of ‘Murican history where that countries people migrating to ‘Murica were considered vermin.

Part of the rallying cries of the Civil War was that the Losers of the Confederacy didn’t want those Northern “greasy migrants” coming down to the Antebellum South. That’s one of the ways they managed to get the non-slave holders to fight.

Come to think about it, the only time ‘Muricans aren’t bitching about migration is when we have troops deployed in combat i.e., a war. Then, we tend to welcome them so long as they fight for us.

So, when the conversation starts ranting about immigration, ask the Ranting Party this: Have you contacted your elected officials in Congress?

Now THAT is a good one! Why?

Because they haven’t. More likely than not, they have ZERO idea who represents them and they have ZERO idea of how to contact them. The only thing they do is bitch that the President is doing nothing.

I’ll share a bit about Pops.

That guy ALWAYS contacted his elected officials. I mean ALWAYS! if he didn’t like something going on he was the first to phone and write to his congress people. He was constant about it as well. It was his way of participating in how his country was being run.

I don’t know if he went to any townhalls. But I’m pretty sure if one was in the area, especially if he wrote to them, he would go to it.

He would always tell me about the letters he would send to Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein. To everyone that represented him even if he didn’t vote for them. He made damn sure his voice was heard.

I can guarantee the people being interviewed at the Iowa exit polls have NOT done anything of the sort. They go off Faux News and get pissed at whatever the click bait headline says. Which makes them dangerous. A misinformed voter…not good.

Take a tip from Pops: Get educated; get informed and write a letter.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Be the person your dog thinks you are. Check in on each other and remember the most condescending bear is a…PAN…DUH! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…duh!

Peace
