A Happy Valentine’s Day GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, today is Spousal Support Unit and I’s 26 year ANNIVERSARY! A kick ass journey of love, patience, and picking your battles. THAT is one of the secrets to a LONG and adventurous love affair.
What Would You Do Wednesday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s WEDNESDAY! And I do love WEDNESDAYS!
Spent this past weekend down in Santa Clarita where I tested for my Yodan! That’s 4th degree of black belt in Ju Jitsu baby! I did pass this go round!
Saturday night we went out to dinner. Like 30+ of us. It was a fairly descent dinner quality wise. Plenty of drinks and conversations for everyone. A pretty good time.
Until it came time to pay.
Lately, I have noticed that, when it comes to splitting checks, restaurants are only allowing the check to be split three ways. Don’t know if you have noticed this.
So, if you have four people, all wanting a separate check, the server says “we can only split it three ways.” I don’t know when this came into being. However, with technology, it shouldn’t be that hard.
Well, at the dinner, when it came time to pay, the “Shit Show” started.
They had put the drinks on one ticket. Then, they created separate tickets for each table. Then, they combined the large table into one big ticket…and the problems began.
The “three splits” thing, yeah, they said it was already done. Which would have left, basically, three people paying for the ENTIRE dinner and drinks!
Then, the servers couldn’t split the tickets further because the system only wanted cards. Our party was a combination of cash and cards because some in our party believe cash is the BEST way to pay…ALWAYS!
One of the servers had a little bit of a breakdown, since there were only three servers for all of us. Correct, the service was a bit lacking.
Was there a manager available to help? OF COURSE NOT! That bastard had taken off earlier in the evening. Why? Not sure. Just felt the need to take off and turn off his phone.
What Would You Do as the tension and confusion builds on a situation like this?
Patience is the key here.
9 times out of 10, it is NOT the server’s fault. It simply isn’t. More likely it is some policy in the restaurant that has caused the issue. Which is what happened here. The manager that left earlier…yeah, that guy, FORGOT to set up his team for success and over-ride the check splitting thing. Had he used his “Magic Manager Card” on the computer system, the servers would have been able to take care of business easily.
Instead, he bailed and left the young servers to suffer and get stressed out.
We, as a group, took care of them. We ponied up the cards, left a generous tip, and settled up the cash and card thing among ourselves.
At the end of it all, I told the server that had a bit of a breakdown “you guys did good.”
You could see the stress fall away from her as she was able to relax knowing someone appreciated them.
Be kind to your server. It’s usually not their fault
I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Be the person your dog thinks you are. Check in on each other and remember on Valentine’s Day in France they give each other a great big…QUICHE! BWAHAHAHHAHAHA…oui, oui!
Peace
