Ed-vise: Eugene V. Debs

A chilly Forward Ambulation GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, enough chill for me to put some gloves on. Though they didn’t really help. Raynauds Syndrome (really cold hands) keeps my fingers cold A LOT! Too many wristlocks I guess.

Free For All Friday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s FRIDAY! OPEN MAT; PIZZA NIGHT!

Eugene V. Debs.

Ever hear of him? Yeah…me neither…until recently when I said to myself, I said “Self, what if T-Rump were put in prison by a state (not federal). Could he still be President?”

Short answer to the question: probably.

Believe it or not, there is nothing in Constitution says he couldn’t be.

He could literally sit in a state prison, campaign from his cell, win the presidency, and become the President all from a 5 by 5 prison cell. Then, most likely, the state would have to release him to go to DC and elsewhere because the need for a President would outweigh the needs of the state.

Now, that is NOT to say as soon as he sits down he wouldn’t be impeached and possibly removed because he actually was ALREADY convicted of a high crime. But, that’s not what we are talking about.

Would this be a first for Good Ol’ ‘Murica? (drum roll please…)…NOPE!

Which brings us back to Eugene V. Debs.

Debs was a congressman from Indiana at the turn of last century; the 1900s. He was a Socialist which, back then, and even today, is considered the Devil in disguise.

In 1918, he was convicted under the Sedition Act of 1918. That was one of those acts where people were put in jail for making speeches that made the government look bad.

His number in prison: 9653.

That’s important because he was running for president in 1920…FROM HIS PRISON CELL!

He had a campaign pin made up which said “FOR PRESIDENT – CONVICT 9653.”

If you read up on his campaign and compare it to T-Rump, you will see many similarities. In particular how Debs campaigned along the likes of “the government isn’t convicting me, they are coming after YOU!” Also, portraying himself as the victim of government interference in his campaign. Run the list of T-Rump’s victim statements and compare them to Debs. You will see a striking comparison. The only difference: Debs complaints were REAL.

Debs landed 3.4% of the NATIONAL vote for President. Damn near a million!

Probably would have had way more rights for workers if he had won.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Be the person your dog thinks you are. Check in on each other and remember if you burn a Hawaiian pizza, you should have cooked it on…ALOHA TEMPERATURE! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHA…mahalo

Peace
