A back in the saddle GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, BACK! No more travel lined up for a bit. I tell you what, it gets taxing on you. All that traveling around. It builds up on ya. Good to be able to veg.
What Would You Do Wednesday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s WEDNESDAY! And I do love WEDNESDAYS!
OK folks! When and where do you think the next big shake up will happen?
Happened in Taiwan yesterday. Big 7.4 quake hit southeast of Taipei (the capitol of Taiwan).
So far, only 9 fatalities and 800 injuries.
In the sport of earthquakes, that’s actually pretty darn good for the human side. Not to make light of a serious matter. Just think on that for a minute. Usually, when a 7.4 hits, it has a LOT more hurt and killed. To compare, Haiti had one back in 2021 that was a 7.2 and had around 2500 killed. Indonesia had one back in 2004 that had over 200,000 fatalities. So, 9 so far, that tells you a little something about what Taiwan has been doing to get ready for such events.
Often times the massive number of fatalities occurs in the cities. Buildings collapsing are a big part of the fatalities. Some fatalities happen due to landslides and avalanches as the mountains shed whatever loose stuff they have. The tsunamis will often wipe out a bunch as well to put an extra punch into the whole thing.
Whenever a quake happens in the ocean or on land that is next to or surrounded by ocean, there WILL be a tsunami. WILL! (emphasis added).
Why? Because the earth shook and now the energy from the earth shaking is being transferred to the water which makes it move. Like if you fill a bowl with water and slide it one way then the other. The water starts to slosh over the sides. That is what a tsunami does.
So…here’s the scenario. You’re on a beach enjoying a vacation. Suddenly a huge number of birds starts flying inland from the ocean. Then, you start to hear a “sucking” sound like a straw trying to draw the last bits out of the bottom of the cup. The ocean starts moving outward to the open ocean.
What Would You Do?
Ed-vise: RUN TO HIGHER GROUND LIKE NOW!
You only have minutes so get up and start moving to higher ground. If you can get into a newer building, get to the upper floors. Don’t take the elevator. Cause you’ll end up trapped in it. Use the stairs. If you can’t get into a building start climbing the nearest mountain or hill. You are going to want to get up as high as you can.
The ocean is going to surge. it will have a lot of force. Don’t try to get into your car because everyone is going to try and do that and the roads will be clogged with cars and people. Plus, more likely than not, the surge will overtake your car.
Here’s another little sumpin sumpin: if you know your car is going under water ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS AND UNDO YOUR SEATBELT! Same for the kids. Get the baby out of the baby seat.
Reason being you are going to panic. If your seatbelt is buckled, panic will confuse you and keep you restrained.
Your car is not airtight. Keeping the windows up will make it almost impossible for you to get them down once the water hits.
With windows down and belt off, you can get out of the car and get above water to breath.
Keep in mind, when rescue workers find drowned victims in their car, the windows are up and the seatbelt is fastened.
I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Be the person your dog thinks you are. Check in on each other and remember if you explain the word “many” to people, it will mean…A LOT! BWAHAHHAHAHAHA
Peace
