Wait WHAT!?!?! Yup EPISODE 50 of ED-VISE!!! The big 5 – 0; fiddy that is! And a crisp GOOD MORNING TO YOU ALL!!! Actually, there are more than 50 cuz I struggle with numbers… sometimes
Today’s bit o trivia: Gettysburg Address. Yeah, I know that you all probably know that today is the day when, some 137 years ago (no problem w/ numbers there) that Mr. Lincoln gave the 2 – 3 minute address. Many have said that it was given immediately after the Battle of Gettysburg. Nope. See, four months after the battle, after they had buried everyone that died there (7300 plus; no problem w/ numbers there either) the powers that be decided to dedicate the bone orchard as a cemetery. And, Lincoln wasn’t the initial person they wanted to give a dedication speech at. The first choice was the “Orator of the Day” Mr. Edward Everett. Everett gave a two hour (TWO HOURS) long oration. The audience listened because they didn’t have smart phones. Lincoln came up after and did his for somewhat less time because people had to use the bathroom… maybe. Bladders were different back then
Think About it Thursday Ed-vise today
Side note: working from home and the ginger-snap dough is done. So much for KEEP AWAY FROM THE COOKIES! Thanks Obama!
Around the world, we have traffic lights and signs. Rules of the road, lines to stay between. Passing lane and slow lanes for various traffic. For the most part, the bulk of ‘Merican drivers do well in following these laws. Even the seatbelt law that came about it 1968 which made it mandatory for all cars to have them and to be used.
In other parts of the world, traffic rules are more guidelines, than actual rules (name that movie). Take a look at driving in India, Afghanistan, Iraq, even many European countries and you will see a circus show of driving accidents and controlled chaos.
So, why do we have these rules?
These rules, put in place by the governments at the city, county, state and federal levels, are in place to (say it with me) protect us. “From What Uncle Ed?” From other drivers and ourselves.
These rules control our behavior and natural tendencies. They limit our freedoms! Everyone follows them like sheep! And fewer people die on the roads than by the flu or COVID!
And yet, for reasons like loss of freedom or not wanting to be sheeple, ‘Mericans want to not do something that will protect OTHER people from the potential of getting COVID. I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember Girl You Know It’s True by Milli Vanilli was actually a pretty cool song even if they didn’t sing it
