Ed-vise Episode 13

A getting better GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, feeling better today. Still battle with a bit of weakness but getting back, full tilt, in the saddle!

Think About it Thursday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s THURSDAY! Time to THINK!

Filibuster! Bet you never heard of it until recently. Or maybe you have.

It’s a humorous little diddy that Congress has for a rule. If anyone says it is part of the Constitution, they would be wrong!

It has been around and used in parliament type settings (representative democracies) FOR-EVER!

In Good Ol ‘Murica, it comes up whenever there is a bill being debated. If a person or party cannot muster enough votes to stop the bill, they can use the “Power of Words” to stop it. Basically, they take their debate time and talk until everyone gets pissed off and decides to stop the vote.

Now, you wouldn’t think this a big deal. However, it STOPS everything from moving forward. EVERYTHING. Nobody leaves the chamber. Everyone stays put and “listens.” It used to be one of those things where it really took a toll on the listeners as much as on the speaker. Meaning you could not leave to use the bathroom or sleep or eat or anything. You just sat there. If you left, well, you could not get back in and you were basically a “NO” vote.

Sometimes this would go on for days. When a filibuster was going to happen, the person doing it would bring in a stack of books to be read. The bible itself has been read hundreds of times in a filibuster. To bad nobody paid attention to it’s teachings.

But, they don’t do that anymore. They don’t really make people sit in the senate and not use the bathroom. They take breaks and do all kinds of other things. Even will bring in beds and such.

So this go round, the Senate Dems were hoping to change the voting rules to require a simple majority (51 votes) to pass the Voting Rights legislation that was on the table. To change the rule they only needed the 51 votes. They didn’t get it. So, the filibuster rule stays in place. OK. That was for changing the Senate Rule.

But the press, is reporting that the Voting Rights measures are dead. THEY HAVEN’T BEEN VOTED ON! And now every social media and news outlet has everyone believing the Republicans and Democrat allies don’t want voting rights. All because a Senate Rule did not get changed?

Think About It people.

If the advocates of this legislation GENUINELY wanted voting rights, Senate Rule be DAMNED! They would bring it to the floor and FORCE EVERY SENATOR TO CAST THEIR VOTE! They would make it public for the world to see…if it were really what they wanted.

The bill would have eventually come to the floor OR the nation would SHUT DOWN because NO OTHER LEGISLATION WOULD GET VOTED ON! It’s a gamble of course. But, if voting rights is what was REALLY wanted, then gamble should be done!

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember dogs are paranoid because they are always BEING TAILED! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Peace
