An early morning Jitsu GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, came racing back to Oregon for morning Jits. 530am was the message I received Sunday (my birfday!). Got up early, went to the gym…NOPE! Monday and Wednesday…NOT TUESDAY! FAAAWWWWWK!
Technically Talkin Tuesday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s TUESDAY…Technically.
So, yes, I am back in Oregon. Left out Sunday after some birthday pie and pics with Pops (below).
Pops, as you all know, is bed ridden and has dementia. Babbles in words but gets SUPER excited when you offer him cookies. Big ass smile and Cookie Monster grunts!
Anyway
There are periods in Pop’s dementia where he has moments of clarity. Where he knows exactly what is going on, knows what he wants to say and says it. Then, he becomes distracted with “shadows” and “ghosts.”
I was waiting on my Granny (found her) and mom to get done with a conversation in the back of the house. Pops was laying there and I was checking headlines.
Pops says “Ed, come here.” Very clear; looking right at me.
I put down the I-pad and went to his bed. It was at that point when he had one of his moments of clarity.
“I know what is happening to me” he started with. “My mind is slow, things are going fast around me and my mind cannot keep up.”
“But, I’m OK.”
“I’m happy. I’m OK.”
In that moment, we connected closer than we have EVER connected. He gave me that assurance that he is ready whenever the day comes. He is at peace in his spirit and in his mind.
And so am I.
When will he pass away? Don’t know. Will his physical condition change? Don’t know.
What I do know is he is at peace with his life. Now, he’s just waiting on his “Uber” to Valhalla. Until that comes, I hope to have more cookies with him.
That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember Han Solo enjoyed his steak because it was…CHEWY!!! AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA….RAWWWR!
Peace
