A bit chilly forward ambulation GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, bit of a chill in the air this morning on the morning stroll. So much so that I needed to put on my BEAVER JACKET BABY!!! YEAH!!! Football season is coming!!!
Think About It Thursday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s THURSDAY! Time to THINK!
Funeral homes.
Ever been to one? Me neither. Except for funerals.
Usually, I’d go in, take a look at the deceased (if there was a viewing), listen to the sermon and obituary, then off to the graveyard.
Too easy
Well, this time, for Pops, we went behind the scenes. To the sales part of it.
Yes, there is a sales part when it comes to dying.
Those fancy caskets cost money. Horse drawn hearse (available in several colors), doves (you want 8, 20, or 50?), bagpipes (how many songs). The list goes on and on. And the cost goes up and up.
Think that you might get a lower cost with a cremation? Nope. That costs just as much as a casket. AND it requires a permit. People don’t want those pollutions going up into the atmosphere.
We sat in that office for two hours going over all the different things that can be done for Pops. We were shown all the urns that Pops could go in, the little monument that the urn would go into (built for two; just for mom), the marker to indicate his spot along with the religious symbols available for his marker. Death certificates would be provided by the funeral home and they would contact social security on our behalf.
After hearing and seeing all of that, Sis asked “where is dad?”
“He is here. We keep him in a refrigerated unit until we obtain the permit to conduct the cremation. Would you like to view him?”
At that moment, I realized “that’s it.”
I don’t know exactly what I would have wanted for him. What I wanted to symbolize a great person. But, all of the “things” along with the way it was said that we could “view” him just seemed to feel, well, cold. Trivial, shallow maybe. I don’t know the exact word to put on it.
So, to Think About It, you do have a say in how you want to go out. However, it does get expensive VERY fast. The only thing I want to remember my Pops with is a coffee cup made with his ashes. NOT AVAILABLE at the funeral home…bastards!
I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember there is no such thing as the “Impossible Burger.” Through Christ…ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA…through Christ!
Peace
