A foggy GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, it was foggy this morning! Warm but foggy. That means it’s official! Foggy Season is here!
What Would You Do Wednesday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s WEDNESDAY! And I do love WEDNESDAYS!
What Would You Do if your loved one took a hard shot to the head?
Would you know the signs of a concussion? Do you know how a concussion impacts the human body?
My Number One Daughter took a shot to the head playing water polo. Back of the head actually, from her team mate throwing the ball and not paying attention to what they were doing. Basically ended her sports time.
As a parent, THAT is some frustrating times. The biggest part of the frustration was that, as a parent, there really was NOTHING I could do. Broken bones, cuts, bruises, sprains, strains…I can help.
Concussions? Not so much.
A concussion is actual damage to the cells of the brain. Kind of hard to detect with the naked eye. As a parent, you basically watch how your kid acts.
The problem there is if you don’t think your kid has a head injury then you end up getting frustrated with them when they complain of a headache or that light is too bright or sound too loud. What gets SUPER frustrating is when they want to sleep all day. If you grew up like I did, where hard work was the cure all, a teen wanting to sleep all day…yeah…kind of hard to stomach.
But, that is EXACTLY what they need!
See, the brain take the most amount of energy from our body, to operate. If you get hurt, it takes extra energy for the body to heal. When the biggest consumer of energy gets hurt, it takes even MORE energy from the body to repair itself. So, the brain makes the user feel sleepy. It makes the user want to sit in dark and quiet places just like when you go to bed. It makes light annoying. It makes sound annoying. Then, when the room is dark and quiet, it puts the body to sleep.
Night, night…in the middle of the day.
And there is nothing you can do, as a parent other than accommodate and understand that your teen is injured and is in need of rest. Lots of rest. So, let them.
Trust me when I say IT WILL TAKE TIME! Ask a doctor about it they will say “it should take a week.” Come back in a week with same symptoms and issues the doctor will say THE SAME THING! Then charge you $1000 bucks (maybe).
Once in a while, as a parent, there is nothing you can do. With a concussion, that is one of those times. It sucks; I know. Hopefully you will never have to deal with it. But, if you do, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember if you cross an angry sheep with an angry cow you get an animal in a…BAAAAAD MOOOOOOD! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…Old Mcdonald had a farm…
Peace
