Ed-vise: Crush Asphyxiation

A super rainy GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, pissed rain this morning on the way to morning Jits. SUCK! Well, at least it wasn’t windy…I hate wind!

What Would You Do Wednesday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s WEDNESDAY! And I do love WEDNESDAYS!

Halloween has come and gone.

One thing I am noticing is that people are becoming more festive around Halloween than other holidays. I like it. You get dressed up, go get candy, decorate up the house a bit. It doesn’t seem as much a let down when it’s over like the other big holidays.

The party’s get bigger as well. And in Seoul, South Korea, 150 people were killed in a crush of people.

There are a lot of ways to die. Many that would simply suck. But crush asphyxiation just seems to be among the worst. You can probably feel what it’s like just reading this. The crowd surging against you; crushing you. You’re surrounded by people and NONE of them can help you. They just keep pressing until you “go dark” and the credits in the movie of your life start to roll.

I have written about this before and I will write about it again and again. I’ll keep writing about these large crowd events because they happen ALL THE TIME! Plus, they end up with a lot of people hurt or dead.

When these type events happen, you have to ask yourself “do I really want to go?” You’ll probably say “yes” and then you’ll go. The planning ahead really starts once you get there.

In Korea you had a big crowd with a bunch of little narrow streets and alleys. Those are the main corridors of travel. It is what it is. So, you have a large group moving along and then you have something happen where people start to panic and move faster. So, What Would YOU Do?

If you can get out of the “River of People” Do so. Find an unlocked door or a solid wall to get behind while the river rushes past. If you can climb the wall do so. Get up out of the river.

If you are caught in the river, try to keep up with it and make your way to the edge. Then, when the opportunity to get out happens: TAKE IT!

KEEP YOUR FEET! If you fall, get into a ball and try to roll to the edge. Then get back up. Staying down will end up causing you a lot of pain if not a lot of death.

If the crowd piles up and begins the “crush” get your “FRAME” up. Bend your arms at the elbow and put your fists up toward your face. Like a boxer. This creates a little pocket that is super strong. You don’t need a lot of muscle to hold the frame. Just keep your elbows in tight and your fists up. That little pocket will keep you alive.

To get out of the river, look at your angles. Avoid going directly opposite of the flow. Diagonal or perpendicular. Use your hand like a sword to cut through the crowd. Almost like a swimming motion.

Hopefully you don’t have your kids with you. If you do and you can get them up above the crowd, that would be my recommendation. If you start “slicing” through the crowd, keep that kid close. You will have to be the calm one because that kid won’t and getting pissed because they are panicking doesn’t help.

Crowd’s suck folks. Even peaceful ones. It doesn’t take much to plan ahead if you know you’re going into one.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember whales don’t wear underwear. They like the…FREE WILLY!!! HAHAHAHHAHA…(windshield wiper laugh)

Peace
