Ed-vise: Hearing

A December GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, it’s DECEMBER! CHRISTMAS IS COMING! And looking forward to The Boy coming home next Friday so I, rather HE, can put up the Christmas lights.

Think About it Thursday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s THURSDAY! Time to THINK!

Think About your hearing.

I know, it’s a weird thing to Think About and a weird way to start off Ed-vise. But, we’ns gonna talk about it.

See, Mom doesn’t hear so well. How do I know? I’ll tell you.

I speak in a normal tone and manner that just about everyone can hear and comprehend.

My son: he mumbles. How do I know? Because he does.

My #1 daughter: she talks really fast. How do I know? Because she does.

Newbie: she rambles. Sometimes she is loud. Like OFF THE CHART type loud.

Mom has little to no problem hearing and understanding Newbie. The rest of us she says she cannot hear and/or understand.

So, we end up repeating ourselves. We raise our voice an octave or two and clearly enunciate our words.

Do that a few times and you will notice a slight, shall we say “shift” in your mood. I notice it in myself.

Even if you just do it on a normal basis, raising your voice from normal conversation levels and overly clarifying the pronunciation of your words shifts your mood into a more “aggressive” posture. THEN, you add to it having to repeat yourself over and over.

There is a thing on Tik Tok/ Instagram where a mom is handing off a hot dish of food to their child. She tells the child to take the dish but be careful it is “Hot on the Bottom.”

The child reaches up to take the dish…by the bottom.

The mom repeats that the dish is “Hot on the Bottom.”

Child reaches up, AGAIN, to carry the dish…by the bottom.

Mom then is forced to raise her voice and clearly enunciate that it is “HOT ON THE BOTTOM!”

When you have to repeat yourself in a loud and overly clear voice, you kinda start getting a bit “testy.” So, people, protect your hearing. It helps to keep the world a better place.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember a pirate’s favorite letter is P…It’s like an R but it’s…MISSING A LEG! HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA…Arrr!

Peace
