Ever hear of him? No? He is the CEO of Norfolk Southern. That’s the train that dumped chemicals all over East Palestine Ohio.
When people in East Palestine were forced out of their homes on a moment’s notice because of his train, him and his company offered up $1000 reimbursement. Ain’t that nice? The person that poisoned your entire life offers to reimburse you $1000 for your troubles. Bless his heart. Mind you he makes $4.5 million/ year salary.
Funny thing about Norfolk Southern and Mr. Shaw. See, Norfolk Southern brought in Electronically Controlled Pneumatic Braking systems. These were an upgrade on old (and I mean OLD) brakes. These braking systems would reduce the stopping distance of a train by A LOT. Just trust me on that.
Norfolk and Shaw were really proud of this safety feature. Talked about it quite a bit. Were even starting to put them on their trains. Then, in the early 2000s, there were a series of train wrecks that occurred. The Train Agency started pushing to make the electronic brake systems mandatory. Because it would reduce these catastrophic train crashes.
Guess who came out AGAINST the braking systems? If you said Shaw and Norfolk you are CORRECT!
Other train companies and chemical companies spent MILLIONS to lobby against such regulations. Under Obama, the upgrade of the braking system became law. Buuuuuttt, under T-Rump, you KNOW that rule that put safety over profit was going bye bye! And it did.
Shaw has a Linkedin page. When you go to and read his activities, you cannot help but feel your blood pressure start to rise in anger. When you read his posts about reliability and safety along with posing with the employees, it just wreaks of hypocrisy. I mean it’s because of Shaw and his ilk that his train dumped chemicals all over the place. It is because of their efforts that upgraded safety systems are NOT in place. Because of the huge amounts of money put into lobbying AGAINST what they knew would prevent this we have working class people basically homeless.
No wonder the people of East Palestine probably want to hang Shaw. But the people of East Palestine need to remember, Shaw is NOT the only one who caused this. And the rest of Good Ol’ ‘Murica ALSO need to realize that unless something is done quickly, this WILL happen again. Hopefully in Shaw’s front yard.
