Ed-vise: Drag Queen Killers

A great workout GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, North Portland Jits last night. Some good combo throws with my Jits friends. Been a bit since we got to do some of that. Sore, but still a great workout.

Think About it Thursday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s THURSDAY! Time to THINK!

In honor of Gay Pride month (June), I figured I’d give a bit of history. Not the usual mainstream stuff…of course.

The Genovese Family. Ever hear of them? Didn’t think so.

You will now!

See, this Family came over from Sicily. The island that the Italy “boot” is kicking.

Sicily, among other things, is known for it’s deep mafia history. And I do mean DEEP.

Well, the Genovese family, led by Giuseppe (who was running from a murder charge) came to ‘Murica around 1892. Later, his half brother, Vito, came in about 1912. These guys set up to become one of the 5 Families of New York Mafia.

Vito found a lucrative cash flow in Gay bars.

See, back then, the Gay community didn’t really want publicity. They had to run in secret out of fear of being arrested or worse. So, you had secret bars where they could meet, dance, drink, and socialize. Very similar to the bars and clubs that were set up during Prohibition.

Which were controlled by the mafia.

It wasn’t so much that the mafia supported Gay Rights. The mafia used the clubs to gain power over high ranking officials who were trying to keep their lifestyle a secret. Plus, the mafia would water down the alcohol! I mean COME ON!

So here’s a bit for you.

You know in movies, some movies, where they show a funeral type set up and a woman in black with a black veil, who ends up being an assassin? Trust me, they’re out there.

Well, that type scene actually stems from mafia hitmen that would dress up in drag to get close to their victims. Specifically two hitmen from the 1910s through the 1930s: “Little Davy” Petillo and Charles “Chalutz” Gagliodotto. A couple of short men that would dress up in drag and “whack” their victims. Pretty effective…and deadly. They were actually known as “The Drag Queen Killers.”

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Be the person a stranger will do CPR on. Check in on each other and remember the thing a Ginger misses most about a party…IS THE INVITE! BWAHAHAHHAHAHA…poor Gingers!

Peace
