Monday Musings Ed-vise today. Cause it’s MONDAY! So GET AFTER IT!
Newbie had her first basketball game. Her dribbling improved thanks to a bit of practice.
She is a “thinker.” Meaning there were many parts of the game that required deep, analytical thought on Newbie’s behalf. Unfortunately, deep thinking requires stillness. And stillness is NOT conducive to effective play in a game based on movement. Thus, many times resulted in yelling to either GO TO THE BASKET or GO GUARD YOUR PERSON. She has calling for the ball down. Even if she is standing next to the person with the ball, she has no qualms about yelling PASS!

We need to settle down a wee bit on this whole border thing that Faux News and the T-rumplicans along with the other jackass “Red States” have everyone thinking Civil War and succession.
As I was musing while cleaning up the backyard I got to thinking about Gov. Abbot and his whole Macho Man standing up to the feds. Then I reflected on the other Red Staters who were responding to the dog whistle of Civil War and such.
First off, those sentiments only hardened my position that no person should be elected to office who has NOT served in some for of military service to this country. If they had, they would NOT take such words as “Civil War” so lightly.
Second, when it comes to the notion of war, if you go to the CDC website, you will see that the states that support Abbot all suffer from severe OBESITY rates. How on earth do they think they will field an army of any size with an obesity rate of over 40%? The physical exertion of war will cause so many heart attacks it will be unbelievable.
But I digress.
What about if Abbot decides to have Texas leave the union? Is that a reasonable thing to think about?
It is. It is a great question for any lawyer type historian (such as myself) to ponder.
A long time ago, Texas wanted to leave the union back in 1868. Why? Because they, along with the rest of the Traitors of the Confederacy, got the shit kicked out of them. So, Texas tried to sue in order to become an independent country.
Supreme Court said “NOPE.” Your stuck with us.
Now, the thing to think about, is that Texas has been part of the Union for some time. There have been a substantial number of federal dollars given to Texas for various projects. Especially along the lines of infrastructure. Ports. Communication. Military expenditures.
If Texas decides to leave, just in the legal sense, don’t you think the rest of us states would want our money back? The pay back penalty to get out of the agreement would be HUGE!
The port thing alone would be a crushing blow to the economy of Texas. Literally. Picture it this way. Texas says “we are leaving.” Good Ol’ ‘Murica says fine. Then, all…literally ALL air traffic is re-routed away from Texas. Because the airports are shut down because the airports are operated by FEDERAL people.
Then, all the ports of entry on the sea get jammed up. Why? Feds again. Border check points (also ports of entry) become wide open express lanes. Talk about an invasion now! Again, no feds on the job. Then, Mexico, or any other country for that matter says “we want Texas.” Guess what? No national defense to help. Basically a bunch of Hillbilly wannabee’s with their rifles attempting to stop an organized invasion. Yup…no more Texas.
So, in a nutshell, keep a level head. Remember every politician that comes on the news is posturing to get re-elected. So they will say ANYTHING to get the votes. But, reality is that smarter people are behind the scenes doing their best to make an imperfect union, perfect.
And NO, I will not pray for Texas.
I’m just saying.
