What Would You Do Wednesday Ed-vise today. Cause I love Wednesdays!
If we learn anything the Afghanistan situation it is that you can really only count on yourself. I don’t know if I have said it before but politicians DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. Politicians make up governments. And governments fail ALL THE TIME! You can only count on you because you cannot count on the government. If the government delivers, consider it a lucky break. Otherwise, we are pretty much on our own.
Afghanistan is a case in point. Everyone acting like they never saw it coming. Seriously? That just means people weren’t paying attention.
So, here is the scenario (and if you think it an impossibility…THINK AGAIN!). You get word that members of the US military are not being paid. Haven’t received payment in months or are broke. Basically, the greatest military in the world is not being paid. Add to that rumor starts coming out about politicians getting kickbacks from the Military Industrial Complex.
Back in the 1970s, my dad was serving in the US Air Force. I remember him coming home, changing clothes, and going to work at a gas station. Why? Because the US military was still paying 1940s wages in the 70s. Basically, he wasn’t earning enough money to have a bucket to piss in so he needed a second job to buy a window to throw it out. The military was considering GOING ON STRIKE and UNIONIZING! And that was here in good ol’ ‘Merica! Freedom Baby! If it weren’t for Reagan, might have had some serious problems.
Back to today and Afghanistan.
The Afghan army had many troops in the more remote areas NOT GETTING PAID! Add to that local police also weren’t getting paid. Taliban never had to fire a bullet. Just offer the soldier some food and money. After several months of not getting paid and begging for food to feed your family, pretty sure you’d take the money and food and GLADLY give them your gun.
But in our scenario, say your not a troop but a local merchant. If you hear rumors like that, I would HIGHLY recommend a bit of confirmation first. Find out how deep this goes. Then start making plans if you have to take off in the night because of an invasion you thought the government would take care of.
The former president of Afghanistan…he had a plan: fill up helicopters with cars and cash and get out of town! So much so that one of the helicopters could barely get off the ground. POLITICIANS DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU!
