Ed-vise Episode 232

A going to Chico GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, headed to Chico for Brown Belt Weekend! Great friends, jits, and the ever rare event of eating sushi!

Free For All Friday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s FRIDAY PIZZA NIGHT!!! Even if I am in Chico. Woodstock’s here I come!

A bit of a testimony/ confession today. About sushi.

My Ju Jitsu Professor introduced me to it. Well, I mean he got me to eat it. I knew what sushi was and had been to a couple restaurants that served it. But I always ordered the chicken dish. It was safer. Like a kid that only eats chicken nuggets because they have a fear of the unknown.

It was at Chico and Brown Belt Weekend. Probably 2009. Professor showed me how to order it, the different types, the safer types (less exotic), and that it was OK to use the fork for my first time.

And, I loved it. We ate tons of it. Professor would break the bank eating sushi. Many others that love it will do the same. He and my jitsu buddy ordered a bunch of it. Almost everything on the menu. Even the lobster head thing…I remember it well.

From there, we ate sushi every time we go to Chico. Pretty much every time we get together we go for sushi.

When I was in Afghanistan, I would go to Dubai for some R&R. Now, Dubai has many sushi places. The city does sit right on the Arabian Sea so it has ready access to fresh fish. Many of my co-workers recommended the various sushi places. So, one day, I went out to one of the near by restaurants for a bit of sushi. I had a craving.

I showed up at the door. Took a look at the menu which had a bunch of it. I put my hand on the door to open it and go in but, I couldn’t do it. As soon as I touched the door handle, I lost my appetite for it. I wasn’t sick, just didn’t want it.

Went to the Burj Kalif Tower Mall. There was another sushi place. I passed it by. Simply had no interest in it.

Why? I contemplated over a Starbucks coffee.

See, for me, sushi is a dish eaten with friends and/ or family. To eat it alone, well, that just didn’t sit with me. In order to have an appetite for it and to enjoy it, I need my “family” with me. I need their presence; their conversation, all of it. Otherwise, well, I guess you could say I am eating alone…and that, my friends, is LONELY!

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember if you don’t laugh at cheesy jokes it is because you are LAUGH-TOSE INTOLERANT!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Peace
