A coughing GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, caught the “Creeping Crud” from my newbie. Not the kind that killed Colin Powell (COVID). The kind that makes you cough (*cough, cough*).
Monday Musings Ed-vise today. Because it’s MONDAY! So GET AFTER IT!
I was going to muse today about my take on “Religious Exemption” to a vaccine mandate. But, then the headline broke about Colin Powell dying from COVID complications.
Not quite sure how I feel about that.
First, he’s no hero in my book. Yes, he did graduate West Point and earn the rank of General. Eventually Secretary of State. Great achievements for a black man.
And on the other hand, he was instrumental in gaining allied support for an invasion of Iraq…which was based on false and misleading intelligence. In other words…LIES. “Yellow Cake Uranium” was the big one I recall. That low grade uranium that could be made into a dirty nuke was the big scary thing.
Sent a lot of people in; a lot of people were killed; a lot of money spent and wasted; a lot of chaos sewn throughout the region. But, I can’t hang ALL of it on him. After all, “Tricky” Dick Cheney and “Aspartame Loving” Donald Rumsfeld were just as dirty in setting up the world for Iraq as Powell.
He admits that the propaganda for Iraq was faulty and will always be a blot on his historical record. The person put forward as THE tie between Osama Bin Laden and Sadam Hussein was Abu Musad Al-Zarqawi. Zarqawi was considered a poor recruit for Al Queda but later became fundamental in setting up ISIS. Good to have goals.
In the end, like I said, I don’t know how I feel about Mr. Powell. I think it cool he broke with the Republi-con party, later in life. Probably his attempt at amends for being complicit in spreading the lies they wanted spread to the world in order to kill a whole bunch of people and keep Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR) in big money with the rest of the Military Industrial Complex.
