Monday Musings Ed-vise today. Because it’s MONDAY! So GET AFTER IT!
Was pondering the Rittenhouse trial this weekend. Of course, the 12 jurors acquitted him of the killings. The defense put up a compelling enough argument that the claim of Self Defense was valid. At least to THAT JURY. I was surprised that NOTHING stuck. But, when you have a supposed jury of “your peers” anything is possible.
Understand a couple things.
First, this was a jury trial in Kenosha Wisconsin. That case applies to THAT CASE ONLY. ONLY! It does not apply to any of the other 50 states or to Good Ol’ ‘Merica, as a whole. It only applies to Rittenhouse.
That means a similar set of circumstances may very well NOT end with a similar verdict. It only means that Kyle Rittenhouse has been found not guilty. Nothing more. So, do not think you can go get your gun, cross state lines and defend an empty car lot from protestors who come after you and end up being found not guilty yourself. You could easily end up doing several life sentences in prison.
Second, and this is important. If you don’t have the money that Rittenhouse had/ has, more likely than not you would have been found guilty.
See, Rittenhouse had a HUGE war chest of money that came pouring in thanks to the many Trumptards and Limbaughdiots that believe the 2nd Amendment is the only amendment in the Constitution. Remember the pseudo Porn Hub (Fox News) went crazy advocating for Rittenhouse resulting in more money coming in. Reports have that at around $2 MILLION! That, in the criminal defense world, is HUGE.
Now, when you hear a story about a woman killing her abusive husband, it usually is her going to prison. Completely self defense (in my opinion). But, she’s going to prison. Why? Well, an abused woman fleeing with her child, after killing her husband, usually does not have the $2 million available to her. She usually has NOTHING but the clothes on her back. But, Fox News would NEVER report that. In fact, I bet most of their viewers would say it’s her fault. Even though she exercised her 2nd Amendment right. If she had that kind of money, she would have a similar outcome.
Unfortunately, most people that find themselves in a “Self-Defense” situation, do not have the money to defend their actions against the weight of the State. Rittenhouse did. The scales of justice are ALWAYS tipped by money. ALWAYS.
