Ed-vise Episode 23

A fun time sledding GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, enjoyed the snow yesterday with family. Newbie a straight up Dare Devil! Took the sled, climbed up and took a slope that had a 3 foot drop at the bottom. That was COOL!

Think About it Thursday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s THURSDAY! Time to think.

Let’s think about the recent class action lawsuit filed by Coach Flores against the NFL.

Flores was the coach for the Dolphins for three seasons. The last two were actually winning seasons.

Issue #1: a winning coach released (fired) by the team. Hmmm.

Flores says that the owner of the Dolphins (Stephen Ross) in 2019 (first season) offered him $100,000 for each game the team lost. Basically, if true, the owner says you will be paid for losing. Completely within an owner’s prerogative for their team. A bit odd because your fans pay to watch their team WIN. And losing coaches get fired and RARELY rehired as head coach.

Issue #2: Should Flores have done the bidding of the owner even if doing so would have a negative impact on the team AND on the career of the coach?

The firing took several people in the NFL by surprise. Especially since Flores was fired after another winning season. The NFL has had a problem with racial discrimination. Several of the athletes and assistant coaches have complained about it. There have been very few black head coaches…and I do mean FEW, in the history of the NFL. However, it has never been adjudicated in actual Court of Law. Only in the Court of Public Opinion.

So, Flores goes lines up to interview for a couple teams (Denver and Giants). He receives a text from another coach prior to the Giants interview. It was mistakenly sent and intended for another coach. It was a CONGRATULATIONS to the other coach. The message was from the Rumor Mill; not the actual team. Flores believes the Giants only contacted him for an interview to “Check the Box” of procedures that NFL teams have to abide by i.e., interviewing based on minority status (NEVER A GOOD THING).

However, THAT is hard to prove.

Issue #3: Based on a texted rumor, did the Giants engage in racial discrimination (intentionally or systematically)?

Coach Flores has an uphill battle to fight. Plus, much like Colin Kaepernick, his NFL days are most likely OVER. But, he has no intention of giving up the fight and I applaud him for it. The NFL has a history of racism even IF they pay a lot of money to their players. HOWEVER…HOWEVER…It was NOT the owners who would have VOLUNTARILY paid the athletes. IT TOOK A UNION TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember if you cross a cow with a porcupine you end up with STEAK that comes with a BUILD IN TOOTHPICK! HAHAHAHAAHA…hmmmm…sounds convenient!

Peace
