A chilly GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, it was cold this morning on the Forward Ambulation. Fingers hurt toward the end. A quick “fingers in the pits” though warmed them up! Definitely wear gloves next time.
Monday Musings Ed-vise today. Cause it’s MONDAY! So GET AFTER IT!
I’ve been watching the Winter Olympics this year. Why? Because I love sports and I love competition.
I will say, I’m not impressed. Especially with the US team.
In watching some figure skating last night, I observed PLENTY of falls. Seemed like everyone was falling. The programs didn’t seem to spectacular. Yes, there were plenty of jumps and axles, but overall, nothing really stood out.
Then there was the skiing. Giant Slalom was what I managed to catch. I love that event. Speed, skis, and when they fall…MAN! It’s like an explosion of gear and snow. I think I watch it more for the falls than the actual winner.
Biathlon was OK. Cross country skiing with target shooting. I have done the target shooting in combination with running. I will say it takes A LOT to calm your nerves and breathing enough to hit a target, let alone hit a golf ball sized target. Then to hit five different targets! That is a tough mental and physical exercise.
At this point of the Olympics, I can say my favorite is Curling! Yup, Curling. Why? Well, Curling reminds me of bowling. I can picture these athletes, in the off season, sitting or standing at the Curling Range with a pitcher of beer and their curling shirts. Throwing the rock down the ice-lane. A crowd on either side cheering them on as the rock gets closer to it’s target. Cheers and Beers flying all over the place when they score or knock out the opponent’s rock. Even add to it some European Soccer “hoodlums” with their fight song or whatever. MAN that would be so cool!
All the other events seem to have a story about dedication and committing to the sport when they were like 3 or 4 years old. Their first exposure to the slopes was when a parent pushed the baby stroller down the hill while the parent was skiing. Athletes that could skate before they could walk or crawl. All those type of stories.
Curling though, I get the sense that’s for the rest of us. Pick up the rock and chuck it down the ice. Sweep out in front to get it to go faster or slower. That’s the story for the Average Person who was just looking for a fun time with his or her friends. No 3am wake up to go for an 8,000 mile run up steep mountains. No going to the rink to hang by your neck while twirling around to get used to the momentum of a triple axel/ Salchow (proper spelling). Nah. Just me and the boys having beer and tossing the rock! That’s what it’s all about.
I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember what you say to a Dorito Farmer…COOL RANCH! HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
Peace
