So, what should have been a dead issue is becoming more. More than what the Fresh Prince of Bel Aire was expecting.
Last night while having a brew with colleagues and solving world problems, this issue came up. Along with the comment “Will should have responded in a better way.”
My response: What would a better way look like?
It all brings to mind the Merchant of Venice by, of all people, William Shakespeare. In Act 3 comes the scene about revenge and human emotion. “If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us shall we not revenge?”
Actors and athletes are humans as well. They have emotions. Sometimes those emotions get the best of them. When that happens, I do agree, they must face the consequences just as everyone else does.
“He should have responded in a different way.” OK. How? File a petition of grievance with the Oscars? Sanctions? A lawsuit?
Will Smith voiced his protest against a slight to his family in a manner that he felt would work best. In everyone else’s mind, it was not the best way. So, what would be the best way?
Will Smith will face the consequences of his actions. No doubt about it. And, I agree that he should face the consequences. I also think he responded in the best way he knew at that moment. Which, if you read this blog, you can ask yourself What Would You Do if your family were the target of a joke about a handicap?
Shoot, I remember how pissed off some of my friends would get about a “Yo Momma” joke.

That’s if for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember if someone sends you suddenly find a piece of celery on your doorstep…YOU ARE BEING STALKED!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA…Get It?!?
