A rained on Forward Ambulation GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, sprinkled while strolling this morning. None the less, a second Early Amubulator was out in the pre-dawn. Our numbers grow!
What Would You Do Wednesday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s WEDNESDAY! And I do love WEDNESDAYS!
Even if they are met with the sad news of 19 children and 2 adults being killed by…you guessed it…another ACTIVE SHOOTER in an elementary school.
Reports say that all the victims were in one room. That means the shooter gained access into the school and into a single room where he began and ended his rampage.
Read this and share it. Why? Because a shooter can kill a stadium full of children and pregnant women and the government of Good Ol’ ‘Murica WILL DO NOTHING! I guarantee it.
So, that being the case, WE, US, YOU AND I, MUST prepare ourselves!
And we do this by thinking about this and other similar scenarios of our day to day lives and ask ourselves What Would You Do!
Every classroom for elementary school that I have been in has the teacher seated FAR AWAY from the door. The classroom of Cherubs sits between the adult and the only entrance into the classroom. So, when a bad person comes in, the one person who can do the most to protect the “Uns” (short for young ones) has a big obstacle to negotiate before they can engage the shooter.
Now, at Robb Elementary School, I will make the assumption that the classroom set up was no different. So, for new, incoming teachers (God bless each of you) What Would You Do knowing what you know now? In Texas (god bless Texas) you know that guns can be openly carried ANYWHERE! That means anyone can walk onto school grounds with a handgun or a rifle or both, in FULL DISPLAY. In a nutshell, you KNOW any armed individual or group can walk into the building with guns on full display.
So, how will you want your classroom set up?
Think about the things you would need to do if such a person were to come on campus. You look up and see a person with guns coming onto the campus. You don’t know there intent. What Would You Do?
Here’s my recommendations that might help ease your mind.
First, a person usually shoots one gun at a time. A person carrying more than one IS A PROBLEM. And, whenever there is a problem what DON’T we do? Panic!
Second, not that you know that such a scenario is no longer an impossibility, AND you are not panicking, Move to the door in an expedited fashion and LOCK IT. That’s it. Just lock it. Of course, this assumes your Cherubs are in the classroom as were those of Robb Elementary.
If it’s during recess and you see this armed person come onto campus, YOU MUST ACT! I cannot emphasize this enough, YOU MUST ACT! YOU MUST approach the person and introduce yourself by your first name. According to police negotiators a person is much less likely to engage in bad stuff if they know the first names of the people.
“Can I help you.”
I know fear will probably make you want to hide. Remember, little lives are counting on you. Overcome this fear and introduce yourself to the person. It might be exactly what was needed at that time.
I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember if you go to the Lego Sale, you’ll be…LINED UP FOR BLOCKS! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA…lines!
Peace
