A day after graduation ceremonies GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, rainy grad ceremony for Portland State U grads. Our friend “College” earned her “All Smart and Shit” certificate! Great work on her part. Now I have to come up with another nickname!
Monday Musings Ed-vise today. Cause it’s MONDAY! So GET AFTER IT!
Suzanne Bonameci gave the commencement speech at the graduation ceremony. She is the representative for the 1st district of Oregon. She’s been sitting in that position since 2012 or so.
She NEVER attended Portland State. Never came close to it. Might have drove by it on a trip to Portland from Eugene. But, never attended.
She gave her little campaign speech where she touted all the causes she champions. Lower cost for higher education, livable wages, jobs, inflation and the list goes on. Plenty of causes, no progress though.
Here’s my Ed-vise for universities and high schools with graduating students: STOP INVITING POLITICIANS TO GIVE SPEECHES! Especially the commencement speech.
OH! AND…STOP GIVING THEM HONORARY DOCTORATES! Especially if they NEVER thought your university was good enough for them! It demeans the honorary title.
See, Bonamici, just like any other congressional representative is NOT a leader. They are public servants. They serve YOU their constituents.
Add to that, politicians, no matter what party they protect and serve, will only piss off at least 1/2 of the crowd. In a crowd of any size, there are only a few who actually like any given politician. The rest could care less or, worse, hate them.
PSU had a second person, Dr. Johnson, receive an honorary doctorate. That person was an actual person who contributed to the greatness of humanity. A cancer doctor specializing in breast cancer. A breast cancer survivor herself! She would have made a GREAT commencement speaker! And, well worth an honorary doctorate.
But Bonamici!?!? Come on!
Why colleges and universities believe a politician should give the commencement is beyond me. The commencement speech should be opened up to show case success stories of the university. NOT to allow some politician to puke out another campaign speech.
There were way more worthy people from PSU alum or Dr. Johnson herself who would have made a much better pick for the commencement. So, for universities that read this, STOP INVITING POLITICIANS TO SPEAK! It forces everyone there to be an audience for a fool!
I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other an remember age is NOT a number…IT’S A WORD! HAHAHAHAHHAHA…hmmmm
Peace
