Think About it Thursday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s THURSDAY! Time to Think!
I find myself a bit disappointed this morning.
Read an article on CNN that was about a two young women suing Maersk shipping lines.
Why? Because 50 year old, adolescent men were allowed to act like shit bags!
The company knew about it and did nothing about it other than issue a policy statement about how sexual harassment will not be tolerated in the workplace. The workplace being the ships.
Well, guess what? The company statement don’t mean shit! Especially when a company doesn’t enforce it.
In the article one female cadet from the US Maritime Academy was doing her year at sea. A requirement of the school.
They put her on board a ship that happened to have within it’s crew several who had been complained about by other female cadets.
Well, as would be expected when you put an 18 year old female on board a ship of men, she was harassed so much that she slept in her bathroom with a knife for fear of being sexually assaulted.
During this cruise there was another female who this female complained to. She too feared for her safety.
Think About It people! NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO GO TO WORK IN FEAR! Fear of their personal safety, mental well being, none of it.
The only reason this was happening was because of weak leadership. Weak minded cowards who refused to stand up for someone who needed someone to stand up. That’s the ONLY reason. The perpetrator was ALLOWED and REWARDED for doing what they did. It’s that simple.
I hope Maersk gets hammered. I hope it goes public and I hope no settlement is reached. That way the CEO of Maersk and board of directors can bask in their shame!
