Ed-vise: Travel

A cinnamon roll GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, gonna get some morning treats for Spousal Support Unit, Newbie, and me here in a bit. Mmmm, I do love those sweets!

Free For All Friday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s FRIDAY! OPEN MAT; PIZZA NIGHT!

I’m getting ready for a trip that, quite frankly, I am not looking forward to.

Why does the Earth have to be so darn big?

It’s basically a trip to So. Cal. My Pops had his 70 some odd birthday this past Wednesday and Father’s Day is on Sunday. So, I am driving down to see the old man and my ma.

Pops is still with us though bed ridden. I hope I can get ESPN and watch the College World Series with him for a bit while I’m there.

I’m driving. Why? Cause I’m stupid like that. Plus I’m going with my Granny. Might make for some good conversation. Emphasis on “might.”

From there, it’s off to Chicago for a safety conference with the ASSP. I’ll be there for a few days. Then back to So. Cal and another long drive back.

It doesn’t get better as I type it out.

That being said, I’ll be off the mat here in Oregon for about two weeks! Uggggh! Two weeks, in MY years is like…more than two weeks. At my age, it takes a long time to get back into any type of shape. When I tell people that to stay in shape you must “keep training.” I do mean KEEP TRAINING! Not just for the skills, they seem to stick around. For the conditioning. THAT goes quick!

So, as always, I will bring my gis so I can catch a walk-in somewheres…hopefully. One of the many great things about jits is gaining the confidence to walk in anywhere and be able to roll. Rolling is rolling. Some martial arts places are pretty traditional and get all bent out of shape when you walk in and want to train or spar. They have their rules and I respect them.

With jits, like I said, rolling is rolling. You step on the mat with your skillset that you have worked on and give it a go. It’s actually better for your training to step on with a total stranger. It allows you to see if what you are learning works.

So, not all is lost on this trip. As long as I can get to the gyms, I shouldn’t lose too much…I hope.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember a pig dressed in black will never get bullied because Batman has sworn to protect…GOTH HAM! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA…oink!
