Ed-vise: Bad Choke

A Forward Ambulation GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, did the morning ambulation today. Been a bit since I did this. Just too much rain I suppose.

Free For All Friday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s FRIDAY! OPEN MAT; But doing tacos instead of PIZZA NIGHT.

The other day I blogged about the person on the subway getting choked out in a rear naked choke. He died in that choke.

The video is out there on the internet. I’ve seen parts of it. Basically a 3 on 1 situation where one person has him in the choke on the ground and two others are pushing the victims arms away as he tries to fight the choke.

Understand I’m not pro Marines or anti-homeless.

What I’m pointing out is that the Marine, in my opinion, is not a hero. Let’s face it, he killed a man. Those that were helping, they are accomplices.

That Marine was trained in how to apply that choke. He was not trained in when to let it go. He was not trained in de-escalating. He held the choke the entire time. The coroner said the victim (Jordan Neely) died from compression to his trachea.

When a person is being choke out, they make distinct sounds. A lot like really loud snoring. I should know. I’ve been choked out and I have choked others out. The sound is unmistakable. You can’t miss it.

In these situations, nobody needs to die. It’s that simple. If a person says “Did he go too far?” The answer is a resounding YES!

There a several videos out there where a choke hold gets put on correctly and is then released…CORRECTLY. No issues and the assailant lives. Why? Because the people putting on the choke know what they are doing.

The Marine could have just as easily taken Jordan down. The others could have easily held him in place without any issue. Then the police could have done their thing and homeless advocates and mental health could have stepped in.

The fight was 3 to 1. Jordan did not need to die. And the Ju Jitsu community needs to remind people how to do a good choke.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Be the person a stranger will do CPR on. Check in on each other and remember angels hate HELL-O-PENOS on their tacos but they love…GUAC-A-HOLY! BWAHAHAHAHAHA…let us pray.

Peace
