Ed-vise Episode 104

A chili foggy GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Hershey walk this morning which met a one headlight runner wobbling down the road. Made Hershey question what they were running from.

Today’s bit o trivia: Claudette Colvin. Bet you don’t know who she is… I betcha!!! Well, as you all know, Alabama has a long history of treating the black populace EXTREMELY poorly. Back in the 1950s they had buses that were segregated; whites in the front, blacks in the back. Black riders would have to give up their seats if the white seats were full so that the white passengers could sit down. You all probably know that Rosa Parks didn’t give up her seat. What you probably didn’t know… Rosa was NOT the first to do that. Ms. Colvin at the young age of 15, probably 5 months earlier, did the same thing and was arrested and had her case go to the Supreme Court where the justices found the segregation thing unconstitutional. Ms. Colvin didn’t get front page because twitter wasn’t around at the time and she was unmarried and pregnant.

Tech Talk Tuesday Ed-vise today

In our quest for greater things, did you ever notice we tend to create our own problems? Or, we add to our existing ones.

For instance, focus. I’ve been reading Indistractable along with having read Deep Work. Both of those talk about focus and being able to concentrate on whatever it is you might want to master. Before that, I came across an app called OmniFocus. This app is a planning tool to help focus on whatever task I happen to be working on. The app is a byproduct of a book titled Getting Things Done.

So, in my efforts of achieving greater focus, I downloaded a software, onto a device (Ipad), that is actually probably the bane of my focus efforts! In order to use the app, I pick up the Ipad or Iphone and open the app. I plan and check off whatever. Then guess what? I scroll through all the other apps I use for…you guessed it…FOCUS!!!

Studies have found that the mere presence of an Iphone or other device is, in itself, distracting and leans toward people using the device for the focus effort BUT ALSO TO DISTRACT ONESELF! A downward spiral of distraction in an effort to attain more focus. I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember sometimes I lay down like a log…that’s how I roll (windshield wiper SNORT)!!!
