Ed-vise Episode 106

What up what up what up?!?!? GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! No Hershey walk this morning. He broke his collar being bad so… NO SOUP FOR YOU!

Today’s bit o trivia: Light Years. Science types take a break… everyone else pay attention! Light years is a term of measurement used by space geeks to give an idea of how far something is from the earth. Rather than say “a gobillion plus” miles, the geeks say it will take a year (or more) travelling at the speed of light to reach wherever. Light speed is about 670,661, and some change miles per hour. So to reach wherever in light years would mean travelling that fast for 365 days. Which, to us history types, means going a really long ways away.

Anyway…

Think About it Thursday Ed-vise today

What ever will we Think About? I have a thought… duh! Leadership.

I have a friend of mine who is interviewing for a “leadership” role. She is super qualified and it would be the companies privilege to have her in this role. In talking with her it was brought up that she doesn’t have any “leadership” experience on her resume. A few more questions resulted in an understanding that “Leadership” does NOT mean having people assigned under you.

See, leadership is not about being assigned people. That is management. Leadership is about opportunity. It is about being willing or able to make the decision when the decision needs made.

My friend had a situation where her company had a HAZMAT issue. Could have been a huge problem. She was in a position that required her to be willing and able to make decisions. Nobody was “assigned” to work for her in the traditional sense. Rather, people were “drawn” to her. When she began to make decisions, they knew she was “The Guy.” The Leader. That’s what it’s about! I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourself. Check in on each other and remember if you tell dad jokes and have no children you are a FAUX PA!!! (SNORT)

Peace
