A late, and I do mean LATE…GOOD MORNING!!! to you all. Yes, this one is late because I had a training to give to some young and eager minds via Google Meets! Apologies
Today’s bit o trivia: Terra Australis. It was at this time in 1770 that Admiral Cook was sailing along with a bunch of his buddies on his boat the Endeavor. Well, as they floated along, they ran into this reef off the coast of Australia. Huge reef. Ran up the whole coast. Just kidding. Shout out to Captain Ron. But it was at this time that Admiral Cook did spot the continent of Terra Australis (so said the British). Keep in mind he was married. What wife would let her husband take off with a bunch of his buddies for that long without repercussions? “Yeah babe, me and the boys are going sailing. Be back in a bit. Love you.” Probably a good thing he was killed at sea.
Tech Talk Tuesday Ed-vise today. No, I am not going to talk about the verdict…today.
Tech wise, a huge event has taken place that is being eclipsed by the social issues here in good ol ‘Merica. The stuff on Mars!
NASA launched a helicopter on Mars! Seriously, that is a huge tech victory. I mean first of all, a helicopter, mathematically, should not fly. But it does. Now, add to that a remote control helicopter. Now add to that the distance the signal has to travel (180 Million miles) to get there. And I lose signal on my cell phone with a cloud passing over.
Now, things are a bit lighter on Mars so the helicopter wouldn’t need to work as hard to lift. Still, NASA made this happen and has been doing lots of amazing stuff with the Perseverance rover that landed on the planet back in February of this year. The flight lasted around 40 seconds and rose 4 feet. No small feat considering that the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk lasted a minute. Well done NASA. I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember astronauts cannot focus because they always space out. Yeah, yeah, I know
