Ed-vise Episode 197

A windy GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Olympics in full swing over in Tokyo and the Men’s Basketball team took a loss from France! First time in a long time! I do love a good upset.

Monday Musings Ed-vise today. Cause I have things to muse about.

I like the Olympics. Actually I just love sports. Love em, love em, love em. I love competition between athletes and teams; a victor and a learner (there are victories and lessons…never a loser).

There are a bunch of events. Far more than the original Olympic games. Many of these events I feel belong in “amateur” competition of a global scale. There are some that do not.

My Musing on this has to do with how I think the Olympic Games should be comprised of: Games that EVERYONE can have access to. When I say EVERYONE, I mean the make up of athletes who have the physical ability to compete in the Olympics.

For instance, track and field events. EVERYONE has the ability to run and throw and jump. Free

Swimming. EVERYONE has the ability to access a swimming venue. Free.

Judo, wrestling, martial arts, weightlifting: everyone has the ability to do these as well. Free.

Gymnastics? It sits at the outer limits of access. Yes, you can tumble and flip for free. But, the other events…have to think about.

Equestrian events? NOPE. Were brought in by rich people that had access to horses. Same with crew (rowing).

My point is this: the Olympics should be made up of games where a person doesn’t have to purchase a bunch of equipment to get started. Having to buy a horse or a mega composite compound bow, or a skateboard…this eliminates many developing countries from play. Now, the training and development to elite competition status is a COMPLETELY different topic. But, get rid of the horses. There is no need for them. Besides, it never makes for a touchy feel good story.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember grasshoppers do not like the Olympics…because they only watch CRICKET!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!
