Ed-vise Episode 236

A Hershey Forward Ambulation GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, Hershey woke up early to take me for a walk and a poop…his…not mine. TMI?

Think About it Thursday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s THURSDAY and time to think!

As if there weren’t enough press about Gabby Petito, I’m gonna talk about her.

In case you have been living under a rock (or this is your only source of news) Gabby is a woman who was killed and not found for a few days. She was a missing person. Now a dead person. Innocent until proven guilty, her boyfriend is being sought after as a possible suspect.

I don’t know Gabby. I bet you don’t either. I have a cousin with a nickname of Gabby, but that’s about it.

How is it that she gained so much press? Why has this case captured national (arguably international) attention?

People go missing all the time. In the Native American community, the majority of them never get investigated. Marginalized communities rarely, if ever, get the same attention as Gabby has received.

When was the last time you saw a press report related to a minority coming up missing that was not a soldier? That received this level of attention. I mean the news sites I check out have been running Gabby’s disappearance and boyfriend search every day since she went missing.

Do you know who Evelyn Hernandez was? No? I bet you know who Lacy Peterson was. Seven months before Lacy Peterson came to the headlines, Evelyn endured the very similar crime as Lacy. She was murdered and very pregnant at the time. Washed up in the same water way as Lacy did. But you never heard of her.

How about David Robinson. He’s been missing for three months now in or around Arizona. Ever hear of him? Me neither. Why? Think About It. He didn’t end up in the news. I bet if the press did a better job of reporting on these missing persons, elected people (like sheriffs) would work a bit harder to find them.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember a problem is a fact that someone is resisting. OOOOOH…That’s Deep!

Peace
