John Gruden stepped down from the Raiders yesterday.
Why?
Seems he sent some emails that were along the lines of racist back in 2011 that came to light last Friday and blew up. Caused a bunch of issues and he chose to resign as the best for the team.
Being who I am, I did a little bit of research. Didn’t take much…just a quick Google would send you to Sportingnews.com where you could get a rundown of the emails and their content.
My vote: yup…Gruden had to go. The content of those emails were WAAAYYY out of line. I mean WOW! Straight up mean stuff.
What makes this unique is that it is from the Raiders. Once owned by Al Davis who many would consider a real Son of a Bitch! Probably said many of the same things Gruden said about the NFL commissioner.
The difference: Al Davis SAID it (probably). Gruden TYPED it in an email…forever saved. Add to that Al Davis probably said it directly to the NFL commissioner. He was not one to mince words.
All that aside, Al Davis was actually pro-civil rights. He boycotted playing a game to be played in Alabama because Alabama hated the idea of black people being able to any type of rights what-so-ever. He also hired the first black assistant coach.
Al Davis just didn’t like the NFL telling him what he could do with his team. And the Raider Nation loved him for it…even if they had a bunch of losing seasons with Davis at the helm.
I’m just saying.
