Ed-vise Episode 288

A no sleep GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, NO SLEEP last night. Mind was racing with all the stuff to try to catch up on for mom. So, if there is a typo…welp, enjoy it.

Tech Talk Tuesday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s TUESDAY! Time for, not necessarily tech but, it might be.

Appears dad had/ has quite the system on taking care of his and mom’s lives. I would say that 99% of it is on paper. Via his ”Paper Brain” as he liked to call it. An old Franklin Planner that he keeps going with all of his passwords, dates, numbers…all of it stored in his Paper Brain. Lose it and I do not think there is a back up.

This leaves mom at a bit of a disadvantage. Reason being she did not really engage with dad’s Paper Brain. She had her accounts and such and she just did her thing. Dad paid the bills, by check, kept tabs in his Paper Brain and away they went. For life.

Think it’s primitive? Well, it is. However, the most important thing is that IT WORKED. It worked to pay off their house in So. Cal. Paid off both of their cars. Put a good nest egg in place and, best of all, they never got scammed. Dad never had to deal with the problems you hear about in the news related to elders being scammed out of money via an email hack and a virus injected. Never had to deal with any of the computer issues many deal with today.

Don’t get me wrong. My Pops, you could say, worked with the cutting edge of technology. If it was a computer in the Air Force, he was on it. Project managed a massive air control system for the Saudi Government. Worked for Raytheon up until 2008 or so. Really had his finger on the pulse of technology as it advanced. But, he NEVER relinquished his Paper Brain.

Now, I have to dive into that Paper Brain and either take it over or show mom how to use it. I think it will end up being the ”Take Over” versus showing her how to do it. It is what it is.

Ed-vise: if you have a system like that, show your loved ones how you do it. They are your back up.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember when Santa gets burned in the fire place he becomes a KRISP-KRINGLE! HAHAHAHAHA KRISP…

Peace
