Ed-vise Episode 293

A recovering from a storm GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, some serious rain blew through So. Cal. yesterday. I been through rain before and THAT was a ”gully washer!”

What Would You Do Wednesday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s WEDNESDAY! And I do love WEDNESDAYS!

We met with dad’s financial planner person yesterday. Which is why I missed blogging yesterday. Dry your eyes people. I am here today!

Mark is his name. Side note: his wife decorates for Christmas like a master! I’d provide pictures but I don’t have any. Safe to say…WOW! Anyway…

Mark went over the financial situation and gave us some guidance on what we need to do for dad’s current state and to take care of mom. He brought up something that leads to today’s What Would You Do.

Long Term Care Insurance.

There are all kinds of insurance out there. Some are required others are nice to have. LTCI is a type I wasn’t quite sure of but I had heard of it. This is an insurance that will provide for you should you need long term care.

Listen, this type care is NOT CHEAP. Often people feel helpless when a loved on ends up needing this. Many times a family loses everything and is pushed into bankruptcy dealing with getting a loved one to the other side. LTCI covers it.

Mom and dad had an opportunity to get this. When the subject was brought up, mom got angry thinking about the inevitable. I’ve heard of it. My Spousal Support Unit has heard of it. We haven’t enrolled in it because, well, being younger, I just never thought I would need it. Nobody thinks they would need it in their younger years. But, this insurance covers long term care WHENEVER IT IS NEEDED. Not based on your age.

Don’t get proud on this. In today’s day and age, the likelihood of needing long term care is going up. Not because of age but because of slow declining health. Many people hit with COVID are going to need long term care because of the lingering health problems.

Don’t get to thinking “it won’t happen to me.” It can and probably will. You CAN insure on it.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember a plastic gallon jug of milk has dents in the sides on purpose. It is to tell you if the milk is bad. If it is, the dents will not be there. Yup, you can learn something new everyday.

Peace
