Monday Musings Ed-vise today. Cause it’s MONDAY! So GET AFTER IT!
Twitter.
I like Twitter. Nice little platform where I have learned a LOT about crypto and blockchain; NFTs and Web3. Seriously. I learned a lot on that platform in a relatively short amount of time. Reason being it (the people posting) gave me the direction and topics to look up. Still does.
It also has the BS side as do many social media apps. Everyone with an opinion can put their two cents into the arena and face the blow back and support for whatever bias you happen to have.
Twitter itself is a publicly traded company. Has a board of directors (who rarely use Twitter…odd) and shareholders. That Board has banned people such as the former Coward in Chief (Trump) due to his inflammatory comments that were causing lots of violence in the street. Good call…in my opinion.
Then came Elon Musk. He wants to buy the company and take it away from shareholders to make it a private company. Under the guise of opening it up for “Free Speech.”
And, right out of the gate, he already screwed it up.
See, he wants to own the platform entirely. A single point of ownership is LESS likely to allow FREE SPEECH that a “publicly owned” platform.
How do I know? Just think about the employees. Do you think they would be permitted to post about how lousy their boss is WITHOUT repercussions? HELL NO they couldn’t!
Is that Free Speech? NO.
Let’s not forget that Tesla is facing union activity in it’s plants. Do you think Elon Musk would ignore tweets about unionizing in his Tesla manufacturing plants? HELL NO he wouldn’t. Not only that, he would use those tweets AGAINST those employees. If he didn’t then he would be a fool.
Musk saying he wants to buy Twitter to allow “Free Speech” is a bunch of BS. Perhaps Musk should take his billions and provide better working conditions for his employees instead of trying to regulate what they talk about.
