Ed-vise: Medals

A Newbie started school GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, Newbie started up kindergarten. Actually started Monday so this would be her first HUMP-DAAAAY!

What Would You Do Wednesday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s WEDNESDAY! And I do love WEDNESDAYS!

Going through some of Pop’s military stuff. In particular his old uniforms. Yup, he still has some of them. Primarily what are called his Class A and Mess Dress.

Class A uniform is the one troops wear for photos and official dress up type things. Kind of like if you were going to meet an important client and you needed to wear a tie and coat. In the military you’d wear your Class A. You can also wear it to formal dining events if you didn’t purchase the Mess Uniform.

The Mess Uniform is for super high end dinner events. Like really fancy. In my opinion, the Marines do this uniform the best.

On Pop’s uniforms, he has his medals and ribbons. The medals get put on the Mess Uniform, the ribbons go on the Class A. Ribbons are a representation of the actual medal. Often referred to as a “Fruit Salad” due to the colors of the different ribbons. Stick around long enough and you get a whole bunch of them.

Pops also has a different unit insignia that he has. One for the “Minuteman” missile group he was assigned to. Those are the nuclear missiles we have in the midwest region. The medal is a silver piece. Probably two maybe three inches long. Looks like a missile.

My cousin volunteers for the VFW down in San Diego. Makes pancakes for them periodically. He wants a medal or insignia from Pops to put on his volunteer cap as a way to honor Pops. Believe it or not, they were fairly close.

So, the scenario for What Would You Do. Would you give Cousin the missile insignia off the Class A uniform?

Simple piece of medal. Just take the back off and pull it off. Too easy. Doesn’t even harm the uniform. Plus, it’s just a piece of medal…isn’t it?

The issue is that Cousin DID NOT EARN THE MEDAL! Pops did.

Some Ed-vise for you if you end up with a medals request from someone that didn’t EARN the medal. They (or you) can go to the store or Amazon and buy one. If you find one laying around in a pile, you can give that one. DO NOT TAKE THE ONE OFF THE UNIFORM OF A VETERAN. Those were EARNED. The only person that has authority to give those medals away is the veteran themselves. Maybe the survivor of the deceased veteran. NOBODY ELSE.

Sure, I might be splitting hairs. But, it is a big deal. If you didn’t earn it, you don’t deserve it.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember if you excel at what you do, people will…SPREAD SHEET ABOUT YOU! HAHAHAHAHHA…bastards!

Peace
