A back from Cali GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, back from Pop’s Celebration of Life. A long drive back Thursday left me exhausted Friday so I missed posting. But now, your lives are complete because I’M BACK!
Monday Musings Ed-vise today. Cause it’s MONDAY! So GET AFTER IT!
Couple of folks knocked on the door this weekend to introduce themselves as candidates for city council and mayor. Can’t quite recall their names but I do recall what they left me: a door hanger.
Side note: Jimmy Carter ran on a door to door campaign. Loaded up his station wagon and went knocking on people’s doors in Georgia and beyond. People knew him because he introduced himself.
So, the door hanger got me musing. The two didn’t introduce the party they ran on. The door hanger did the talking. Republican. But that wasn’t the first thing I read. I read what they would vote against.
I am a registered Republican. I can say this with all honesty: the Republican Party is a party of fear ONLY! They have no plan, no optimism, no hope for tomorrow. There is no light anywhere. Only darkness. They will vote “NO” on any and all measures that offer ANY person ANY semblance of hope. And that is the honest truth.
The first thing I saw they would vote “NO” on was a measure for the Oregon Constitution to reflect the people’s rights to healthcare. Which means government provided healthcare or UNIVERSAL healthcare.
That measure earned a “NO” vote right out of the gate.
Why?
The belief has to do with “Free Market” and something along the lines of government interference in your personal life. Those were the arguments against the Affordable Care Act.
The take is that you will lose your “Freedom” to choose which healthcare you want. Which is a stupid reason.
In watching Pops go, there was never a conversation about him choosing which healthcare coverage he wanted. None. Yes, he had healthcare which consisted of Tricare and Medicare Plan A & B. Tricare being what he earned from his life in the military; Medicare being (wait for it) government healthcare and hospice care.
Final bill on that I think was a couple thousand if that. Maybe less. Very likely ZERO. My estimated costs would put it at in the six figure range.
In my musings I asked “Why should money be the first thing that comes up when we get sick?” That’s simply ridiculous! I don’t know about you but when I see a picture of a person in a hospital bed I immediately wonder how much they will end up paying. THAT is the sin of Republican philosophies.
These so called “Patriots” clearly have not read the Declaration of Independence which says “[we] are endowed with certain unalienable rights that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Having the means for Life i.e., Healthcare, seems a pretty reasonable thing for our government to provide.
I’m just saying
That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember NEVER eat a ghost. They taste like…SHEET! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA…ewww!
Peace
