Ed-vise: Evidence is Gone

A boy headed back to Texas GOOD MORNING!!! to you all! Yup, he’s headed back to his home today. Such an awesome visit with him and just getting to give him a hug. Been a top shelf Christmas gift for his old dad. Especially when Number One Daughter was able to join us.

Think About it Thursday Ed-vise today. Cause it’s THURSDAY! Time to THINK!

Yesterday, there was a fire in New York. Brooklyn, to be specific.

Now, mind you, there are fires all the time in and around New York. It’s a big city. Plenty of stuff to keep the fire fighters busy.

This one though will have MAJOR ramifications. Especially throughout the criminal justice world.

See, this fire was (and still is) in a 30,000 square foot building. It housed A BUNCH of biological evidence obtained by Brooklyn PD. The evidence goes back decades.

The biological evidence wasn’t just DNA properly sealed and stored. It was also clothes, cars, motorcycles, anything with DNA on it as well. If the fire didn’t destroy the DNA, then the smoke damage will have, at least, ruined it’s ability to prove anything.

Cold cases, new cases, missing persons, robberies, burglaries, murders, name the crime and it is most likely dead on arrival due to lack of evidence. Also…rape kits.

Many crime victims will NOT receive any type of justice. Their assailant will now be free.

DNA evidence plays a HUGE role in convictions. That evidence basically provides the proof than an individual was at a crime scene. So long as the alleged criminal did not confess, the DNA evidence would deal a crushing blow to the defense of “I wasn’t even there.”

Now, it’s all gone.

Add to it, those who are wrongfully convicted. Yup, any type of exculpatory physical evidence in Brooklyn. Well, so much for that.

So many questions on this. Why so much in one location? Why stored in a flammable medium? How did it start (apparently a lithium battery)? Why did it spread so quickly? Why? Why? Why?

There are going to be a lot of people who are super happy. There will be a lot of people super sad as well. Something so small as a lithium battery. Seems unreal.

I’m just saying

That’s it for today. Take care of yourselves. Check in on each other and remember Santa’s favorite singer is…BEYON-SLEIGH! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…oh that’s good!

Peace
